The Garden of Earthly Delight (Ca. 1504) by Hieronymus Bosch (ca. 1450-1516) A tryptych (plus shutters) Earthly-Delight-L.jpg Left Wing "The earthly paradise" 404x1010 Earthly-Delight-M.jpg Middle "Ecclesia's paradise" 720x784 Earthly-Delight-R.jpg Right Wing "Hell" 422x1015 Earthly-Delight-S.jpg The shutters which depict the third day of creation 717x779 As one of Bosch's most memorable images is the right wing of this tryptych "Hell", and as he painted very small on big panels, I have included a very big version of delightr.jpg. You can see in detail all of the tortured souls and exactly what is being done to them. (NB In reference to astrological alignments at the time this was painted, a lot of the instruments of torture are also musical instruments.) Earthly-Delight-R2.jpg Right Wing "Hell" 1252x3044
